Psychotherapy

One important aspect of psychotherapy is its relevance for individuals undergoing the migration process, which is a significant area of focus within the broader field of mental health support. Foreigners face multiple emotional and mental challenges related to uprooting, adapting to another culture, and uncertainty about the future.

More specifically, as part of the emotional challenges faced during migration, foreign nationals may experience homesickness, fear, or stress. They may also experience symptoms of depression and anxiety, loneliness, problems establishing friendships, or even substance abuse, among other issues.

Other problems that could exacerbate the migration process include language barriers, experiences of racism, cultural differences, unemployment, and issues related to legal status.

Psychotherapy offers a space to understand thoughts, explore emotions, and learn to manage the impact of moving to another country.

Psychotherapy provides support that specifically addresses the difficulties inherent in the adaptation process, as well as concerns that arise both before and after migration.

Among the tools offered in psychotherapy are the building of social support networks, the strengthening of resilience in the face of adversity, and the promotion of a healthy transition to the new environment.

These skills are promoted with particular consideration for the personal and cultural values of foreigners as well as those of the host context.
